The first flakes of winter snow was gracefully delayed…and, yet, here it is!  Last  Sunday we began Advent, that pre-Christmas period of intentional waiting, creating a place and a people prepared for the birth of Jesus into our world and lives.  It is a season of both reflection and  giving.   Chapel Hill communications are full of opportunities to make Christmas a brighter time for folks who are struggling, with programs like Angel Tree, Ministry with Community Christmas, and so much more.

But this year your church is asking you to be a part of “ONE BIG GIVE”, an opportunity to think about ways you can use your passions and talents in the new year, while giving financial gifts at year end.  Enclosed is a “ONE BIG GIVE” brochure detailing ways you can be a part of ministry in the new year and why you are being asked to give financially to PCHUM at Christmas.   There is also a brochure on the benefits of year end giving, such that both the giver and the receiver share the joy!

At heart of all this, though, is the fundamental need of the disciple of Jesus Christ to give fully of themselves in time, talent and resources.  There has never been a more critical time for our giving of ourselves.  No contribution of time or money is too small.   I am asking that you prayerfully consider your abundant response to God who has been faithful, giving in abundance to us, even in difficult years.  Read through the brochures.  Be in worship to hear the stories of ministries half a world away, down the street, and within this building.  Commit to stretching in such a way that “not enough time” becomes, “I think I can do an hour a week”, and “not enough money” becomes “I have this ability to give…and I will.”

“ONE BIG GIVE” is an effort of many PCHUM folks who offer it as an exciting possibility to move beyond places of “not enough” to a celebration of God’s grand abundance.  There is work of ministry for all of us to do!  There is a challenge of $65,000 set before us.  None of it is doable by just one.  But Christ gifts us as the Body to come together, pool our resources and approach the manger with “ONE BIG GIVE”.  I am not going to miss being a part of it…and trust you won’t either!  Read all the details and find out how to participate by clicking here.
