Deliver Us:  Food Pantry

September 20 – October 18, 2009

As we  explore the story of Moses and the Exodus as we see how God still works in the world today to provide deliverance from oppression, food in the desert, and the hope for the promise land.

As we study this theme, the children are invited to be God’s hands here and now as we help provide food to the hungry through the Food Pantry housed here at Chapel Hill.  We will be collecting items for donation to the food pantry until at least October 18.  Parents are encouraged to take their child to the store to help choose foods that kids might enjoy.  You could even give the child a certain budget and encourage them to see just how much food they can get for that amount.  Or if time is prohibitive, let the child “shop” through your cupboards.  The most important thing is to let the children get involved in this process.  Encourage them to think of what it would be like to not know if you could afford food from day to day.  Then together thank God for finding ways to reach those who cry out for help today, just as God did for the Israelites so many years ago.

Past Missions Update:

St. Andrews “Potato Rescue” Project

This summer at our Camp EDGE VBS our kids brought in spare change to help Society of St. Andrews “rescue” potatoes left or passed over in the fields.  By gleaning these leftovers, hungry people are fed and good food is “rescued” from waste.  The Camp EDGE kids collected enough money to save over 700 pounds of potatoes!
